January 2024

Executive function group starting January 10th at Boston Sensory Solutions in Milton for ages 9+. The cost for the 6-week, 45-minute group is $285 and the group meets on Wednesdays. The group will target organizational skills, time management, impulse control, working memory, planning and more!  The goal is for participants to leave with concrete strategies for improving their executive functioning.  This is a great opportunity for youth who struggle with executive function skills, or experience ADHD related executive function challenges.

Book recommendation for parents: Behind Their Screens, What Teens are Facing (and Adults are Missing). Written by Emily Weinstein and Carrie James of Project Zero at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

November 2023

InStride Health provides intensive therapeutic services for patients with anxiety, OCD, ARFID and other disorders associated with anxiety. They work closely with the ARFID program at Boston Children’s.  They are licensed to practice in multiple states, which can be helpful for college age patients. They work closely with families to minimize the wait for services.  They accept most insurances, and this month will start to accept Unicare-GIC. This is a virtual program.

New Harbor Behavioral Health has openings for adolescent intensive outpatient programs (IOP) services.  The program accepts insurance and schedules in the after-school hours, allowing patients to continue to attend school. They are in Dedham and serve youth with mental health or substance abuse concerns.

Northeast Health Services – a network of behavioral health centers just opened an office in Quincy. They offer therapy and psychiatry for all ages, children through adult. They are a large network with lots of offices throughout the state. They accept most insurances, including MassHealth.

PARENT SUPPORT GROUPS/WORKSHOPS IN OCTOBER

Over the Moon Parenting New Father’s Group starting October 14th – Norwell, MA

$90/ 3-week series

This dad and baby group will meet one hour for 3 weeks. Come meet with up other new fathers with infants up to 7 months old. Discussions will be focused on the group’s experiences as Dads. The group will be led by a Joe Kolczewski, south shore father of 2 young girls. Saturday mornings at 9AM. We think a lot about moms, their adjustment to parenthood and postpartum emotions.  Dads experience different changes but often benefit from support for this life change also.

Boston Sensory Solutions is offering a parenting support group and a single session sleep workshop – Milton, MA

Parent Connections Group – Wednesdays, October 11th – November 5th, 7:30 – 8:30

A weekly time for parents to come together and share their experiences, hear each other’s stories and be together in a supportive environment.

School Related Transitions is the first week topic – children separating to go to school in the morning, adjusting to new teachers, new friends, new routines, afterschool meltdowns, etc.

Cost $25 for 6 weeks, a small fee to cover the cost of snacks and materials

Sleep Struggles – so many parents have questions or challenges with managing this aspect of parenting.  This talk, including the time for questions and answers, is a great place for support.

Effective Effort Consulting – Norwell, MA

Executive Functioning Coaching for neurodiverse children, adolescents and adults.  They also offer parent coaching. The parent coaching supports parents in learning the skills needed to parent their child, maintain a positive relationship and be effective in supporting a child with executive function challenges.

MOVEMENT CLASSES

Muscle and Flow – Milton, MA

Classes, including Mom and Me yoga, kids yoga and boxing classes and tween yoga classes – fall sessions are starting now

Yoga can help children and tweens who experience anxiety.  The tween class includes yoga, mindfulness, reiki and is offered by a wonderful teacher. For the classes, parents can pay by the day, or buy a 10-class pass.  This allows children to participate when they have time but not be stressed if one week doesn’t work.
